Workato
Workato fits integration and automation teams that already manage the enterprise application fabric. Agent Studio and orchestration build on the same iPaaS foundation, while Enterprise MCP can expose recipes and skills to agents with user identity, access policy and audit trails.
Kosmoy
Kosmoy fits platform, security and governance teams accountable for heterogeneous AI across clouds and business units. It runs in the customer's Kubernetes and combines registries, LLM/MCP/A2A policy enforcement, observability, compliance evidence, evaluation and agent containment.

Put one customer-owned control layer in the AI request path.
Kosmoy covers the control and operations side of AI middleware — LLM, MCP and A2A mediation, identity, guardrails, cost, observability, evidence and containment — in your own Kubernetes, alongside the iPaaS you already run.
Where Workato wins
Enterprise integration. Workato's iPaaS, API management, data orchestration and workflow automation address the N×M problem between agents and business systems directly. Kosmoy deliberately does not maintain thousands of SaaS connectors or replace an iPaaS.
Agent development and orchestration. Agent Studio and orchestration are first-class product areas. Kosmoy can build governed agents but is not trying to become a low-code enterprise automation suite.
Turning existing automation into agent tools. Workato Enterprise MCP can expose existing Recipe Functions and Skills as MCP servers, preserving authenticated user context and audit — a strong path for enterprises with years of Workato automation already deployed.
Where Kosmoy wins
Deployment sovereignty. Kosmoy is single-tenant software in the customer's Kubernetes, including air-gapped environments. Its control plane does not need to live in a vendor SaaS. That is a categorical difference for central banks, defence and similarly constrained environments.
AI-wide inventory and risk. Kosmoy maintains systems, model, MCP and agent registries with ownership and risk classification across multiple external platforms, rather than limiting visibility to the integration estate flowing through one automation product.
Runtime AI safety and containment. The AI Gateway enforces LLM/MCP/A2A policy and guardrails; Action Capsules add a kernel-enforced sandbox, constrained egress and kill switch. Workato's access policy is strong, but it does not document an equivalent execution-containment boundary.
Regulatory evidence. Kosmoy maps inventory state plus runtime logs into EU AI Act, ISO 42001-aligned and NIST AI RMF evidence workflows; Workato's public AI middleware material emphasises governance and audit but not the same AI-regulation system of record.

Running them together
A credible enterprise architecture can use both. Workato remains the integration/orchestration layer that gives agents safe business actions; Kosmoy remains the independent AI control layer that inventories those agents, governs their model/tool traffic and produces evidence. This avoids forcing an iPaaS to become a complete AI governance system or forcing an AI control plane to recreate the enterprise integration estate.

Is Workato an AI middleware platform?
Yes in the broad architectural sense. Workato explicitly positions its integration, orchestration, Agent Studio and Enterprise MCP capabilities against the emerging AI middleware category. It is particularly strong on connecting AI to enterprise applications and workflows.
Is Kosmoy a Workato replacement?
Usually no. Kosmoy does not replace Workato's iPaaS connectors, recipes or business-process automation. It can replace or complement the AI control/governance layer around models, agents and tools where sovereignty, runtime policy and AI evidence matter.
Which is better for regulated Kubernetes environments?
